Numbers
Published in Hardcover by W.J. Fantasy (April, 1998)
Average review score:

A must haveOut of the dozens of books I have for my 8 month old twins, they fight for this one, so I'm buying 2 more. They love the bright colors of the illustrations and seem to enjoy the rhythm of counting. I love it's educational benefits. I can not only utilize the book to teach numbers and counting, but we enjoy the bright illustrations to teach colors. Highly recommended.

On Suicide: Great Writers on the Ultimate Question

On Suicide- insights through Philosophy and LiteratureThis collection of essays, short stories, and poems all deal with the "Ultimate Question": to be, or not to be. Each philosopher, writer, or poet has contributed his or her own thoughts regarding suicide. Some of the selections are whimsical, such as a poem which discusses different ways of "doing it". Others are thought-provoking and emotional pieces, which bring up thoughts about why people commit suicide, and the feelings felt by those they leave behind. This book is suitable for scholars, teachers, professionals of all sorts, and especially those who may think twice before answering their own "Ultimate Question".

Find out what happens to a boy named, Billy, who can't get anything to work out right. Find out what happens when he tries to help his Grandmother with her beloved pet. Will Billy make things right again? This is a great story for young readers. It is a good book for children who are just beginning to read too. The story is well written and easy to understand. The Organizational Self and Ethical Conduct: Sunlit Virtue and Shadowed Resistance
Published in Paperback by Wadsworth Publishing (17 March, 2000)
Average review score:

Postmodern Ethics ExplainedJim Anderson is the finest American mind in postmodern social science theory. This slim volume is an intriguing and manageable introduction to how pomo theories of self and subject may be used to negotiate the challenges which arise when we try to live decent lives with each other. Although written as a textbook, this work should be added to the shelf of anyone who is confused about what it means to be a caring and trustworthy worker, lover, friend and family member in the age of deconstruction. Useful for people tired of Marxist and/or French pomo theory. (khuck@cocc.edu)

The Origin of Life on Earth, An African Creation Myth
Published in Paperback by Sights Production (March, 1996)
Average review score:

I was expecting something different. When I opened my package of hundreds of dollars of book I bought from Amazon the other day, I noticed that this book looked liked a children's book. I was a little disapointed because I wanted it to be a book for ME!
I got over it.
The story and the art were beautiful. I will save it for my little kids and give it to them when they are older so they can appreciate an African creation myth when they can understand it.

Our Turn: The Good News About Women and Divorce
Published in Hardcover by Pocket Star (May, 1993)
Average review score:

Insightful, inspiring, enlightening, encouragingAs a 47-year-old woman with three chrildren who just completed the divorce process (by choice), I was delighted to find and encouraged by "Our Turn" ...especially the aspects of growing up and discovering (or rediscovering) just what strengths and abilitities lie deep inside us. Sharing the stories of the different women, their challenges, triumphs, bumps and bruises was like looking into different mirrors and finding myself in, not all, but many of them. The book is well organized and lends itself easily to referring back to pertinent sections for rereading. The women's stories were incredible! I applaud their candor & willingness to share their pain, anger, joy, determination, and their recovery. I read the introduction in the book store and was immediately hooked. I purchased the book to take on my first solo vacation...to Cancun. I met two divorced women while climbing the pyramid at Chichen Itza. One chose divorce, the other did not. I was amazed how much their stories were like the women in "Our Turn". I encouraged them to buy the book and read it. Probably the best part was that, by the time I finished the book, I didn't feel quite so crazy or isolated. I knew I would be OK. I had become part of a sisterhood of very strong and resilient women. The authors have done a tremendous service. Their work has been invaluable to me.

A & P: The Story of the Great Atlantic and Pacific Tea Company
Published in Paperback by Arcadia Publishing (August, 2002)
Average review score:

Best History of a RetailerThis pictorial history of A&P gives a bird's eye view of how a little family company became one of the top retailers in America. I found this book to be both enjoyable to read and to view. The pictures used are visually appealling and the accompanying text explains what you are seeing succintly. Avis has done an excellent job in relaying the history of this company through both pictures and text. I strongly recommend this book not only to employees of this company, but to anyone who has ever shopped in a grocery store.
